14TH RHODES INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL, A CULTURAL FEAST
The festival, the Festival which is distinguished for its high artistic level, focuses on classical music and opera, musicals, jazz and tributes to quality Greek music by world-famous composers it hosts very significant events and several renowned orchestras, music ensembles and artists.
This September, the festival took place from September 7 to 13 at the Medieval city of Rhodes which has been designated as an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes reopened its gates and the people who had the chance to attend experienced a once in a lifetime cultural feast.
As part of our CSR programme, we were proud hospitality sponsors to this major event, enhancing the cultural and spiritual face our local communities. Mitsis Grand Hotel, the only 5* ultra all-inclusive sea-front hotel at the heart of Rhodes hosted 20 artists, musicians and crew members during the festival.
The event officially commenced on the 7th of September with the “Idomeneas” Opera by W. A. Mozart. The New York-based Opera House “Teatro Grattacielo” and the Camerata Bardi Vocal Academy N.Y. presented W. A. Mozart’s opera “Idomeneas” in a pioneering form of alla breve. The opera “Idomeneas” is a co-production of the Teatro Grattacielo with the Cultural and Conference Center of Heraklion, Crete.
With this wonderful opera which is inspired by Greek mythology and the history of King Idomeneus of Crete, directed by Stefanos Koronaios, the Artistic and General Director of the cultural organization (Teatro Grattacielo & Camerata Bardi), the festival celebrated the 200 years of Greek Independence.
On the occasion of the 44th anniversary of the death of Maria Callas, on the 9th of September the festival dedicated a concert to her memory, with the participation of international lyricists from the Camerata Bardi Vocal Academy in New York from around the world.
