Athens, Greece, Among Best Cities in the World for 2024
Athens has ranked as one of the 50 best cities in the world, according to the 2024 World’s Best Cities index recently released by Resonance Consultancy, a leading global advisor in tourism, real estate and economic development.
The World’s Best Cities rankings quantify and benchmark the relative quality of place, reputation and competitive identity for the planet’s urban centers.
The Best Cities data is lauded as the world’s most thorough annual city ranking, based on original methodology that analyzes key statistics, user-generated reviews, social media and online activity. According to the index, Athens was ranked the 48th best city in the world, having demonstrated “remarkable resilience” in the face of adversity.
“Despite enduring punishing financial crises, austerity measures, wildfires, and the global pandemic, the city has emerged stronger than ever. The sustained investment is now blooming as jobs trickle back (fueled by global workers and micro start-ups coaxed by relative affordability and all manner of digital nomad visas) and tourist levels return to 2019 levels,” the report said.
The Greek capital over the last few years has experienced a culinary and hospitality renaissance, boasting nearly 300 new restaurants and 35 new hotels. At the same it its cultural resurgence was boosted with the launch of the Athens Olympic Museum, which opened its doors to the public in May 2021, and the reopening of the National Gallery following an eight-year renovation.
Other rankings for Athens saw the city 31st in the Museums category, 19th in Shopping, 22nd in Nightlife and 27th in Sights and Landmarks. Furthermore, the Greek capital ranked 43rd at a European level and 107th in the Prosperity category.
