ATHENS OUTDOOR CINEMAS
Cine Thission, operating since 1935, is famous for its breathtaking view to the Acropolis. It has reasonably been included in CNN’s list with the most enjoyable movie theaters in the world.
Cine Paris in Plaka is the first open air cinema in Athens and has been operating since the 1920s. It is on a rooftop, surrounded by greenery and offers incredible views to the Acropolis as well. At the ground floor you can purchase old movie posters and in the neighborhood you can find a lot of restaurants and shops to buy your souvenirs.
Cine Aegli, only a few steps from Syntagma Square, offers an ideal scenery between the trees. Don’t miss the chance to stroll through the Zappeion Gardens and combine it with a dinner or a drink. On the other hand, cine Psiri has a more industrial style, as it operates as a warehouse during the wintertime and as an outdoor cinema during the summertime.
If you are lucky enough to find yourself in Athens until this September, Athens Open Air Film Festival is taking place in various locations around the city, like museums, squares, gardens, pedestrian precincts and archaeological parks. You may watch some very famous films, like Fight Club, The Remains of the Day, The Royal Tenenbaums and Goldfinger under the Greek sky. No matter what your movie-choice will be, it is guaranteed that your night in Athens will be long remembered!
