BEYOND THE BEACH: 5 THINGS TO SEE AND DO IN KOS
1. Stroll along the picturesque streets
Visit the centre of Kos, buy a souvenir from one of the many tourist shops you will find, preferably while enjoying a scoop of ice-cream, and take a photo at the harbour in front of a traditional boat. Don’t miss the chance to visit the two most famous attractions of the island, the Tree of Hippocrates and the Asclepeion- they are a must!
2. Ride a horse by the sea
Horse riding has become a popular activity during summer time. You may choose between different packages, but riding a horse by the sea is an experience of a lifetime, for which no prior experience is needed.
3. Attend the “Hippocrates” festival
For more than 25 years “Hippocrates” festival is taking place during the summer time on Kos. If you are lucky enough to be on the island at the time of the events, you will have the opportunity to attend classical concerts, plays, sculpture and photo exhibitions, traditional music and dance events and even a yacht racing. Last but not least, a “Hippocrates” festival would not be complete if a reading of the Hippocratic Oath was not included!
4. Enjoy the view from Zia
Zia is a village known for its breathtaking views. Numerous restaurants and cafes can be found there, as well as the Natural Park. Walk on the stone paths between the trees, right next to the local animals and plants. Enjoy a traditional beverage at the snack bar, admire the view using the binoculars that are placed in the best view points and relax at a hammock while reading your favourite book.
5. Stare at the night sky at Therma
This is for the romantic ones! Choose a night with a clear sky and go to the hot springs of Kos. Here, the stars are countless! Lay on the beach, listen to the sea, feel the summer breeze and find your inner peace.
