FATHER ANTONIOS
THE PRIEST OF LOVE AND SOLIDARITY

Father Antonios, a remarkable person with an untamed spirit, well known for his philanthropic activities all over Greece through the Ark of the World (Kivotos tou Kosmou), can only be described as a modern hero in our society. In recognition of his work, he was awarded as European citizen of the year (2018), in a ceremony at the European Parliament in Brussels, a prize awarded to citizens, groups, or organisations who have displayed exceptional achievements in cooperation, philanthropy, human rights, and strengthening the European spirit and ideals and promoting the values of the EU.

 

The Ark of the World is a voluntary non-profit organisation that works to offer food, clothing, education, medical and dental care to children around Greece, as well as financial aid to impoverished, single-parent families, which we are proud to support.

So far, the Ark of the World has helped and educated hundreds of children, with most of them integrating in Greek society once they “graduate” from the organisation. It was founded in 1998 by the 26 years old priest, Father Antonios Papanikolaou.

 

Father Antonios also established several support programs, including helping area children who have dropped out of school to return and complete their studies. “For me, the Ark is God’s plan which pre-existed… God has blessed this task and we go on with His help”, continues Father Antonios.

 

Father Antonios helps both local Greeks and migrant children and mothers who are in need. Regardless of religion, Father Antonios is there to help all those who are willing to accept his support. When the refugee crisis hit Greece, the Ark of the World opened its arms to unescorted refugee and migrant children, taking care of them and teaching them Greek.
