KOS IS AWARDED AS ‘BIKE FRIENDLY’ DESTINATION
The mayor stated that the history of cycling in Kos goes back through a strategic choice of cycling tourism and the use of bicycles as a means of transport, while the Deputy Mayor of Tourism, Culture and Public Relations Mr. Sevi Vlachou characteristically stated that this certification is another commitment that is being implemented.
The “Bike Friendly Destination” Certification Mark was awarded by Astiki, a non-profit company NatTour, in collaboration with the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature and is under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Environment & Energy.
Today in Kos there are thousands of bicycles and many shops where you can buy or rent a bicycle, cycling clubs, 15 kilometres of cycle paths running through Kos town and flat paved roads with limited traffic, which can be used for cycling and reach settlements and beaches. Locals use them to go to work, for leisure rides and shopping. In Kos, Bicycles are even used as decorative elements!
