QUENCH YOUR THIRST WITH A HEALTHY LEMONADE
Nothing beats ice-cold, zesty lemonade on a hot day! Unfortunately, it’s often loaded with sugar. The good news is that making your own lemonade means you can enjoy a healthier option. Here are three refreshing, low sugar homemade lemonade recipes to quench your thirst.
1. Honey Sweetened Lemonade
Ingredients
1/2 cup honey
13/4 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 lemon, thinly sliced
Fresh mint (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- Add honey and 1 cup of water to a small saucepan and heat to a simmer
- Once simmering, cook for 1 minute, then remove from heat and let cool
- Once cool, add to a large pitcher followed by lemon juice and 5 cups of cold, filtered water. Stir to combine
- Add lemon slices to the pitcher. Serve over ice, garnished with fresh mint (if desired)
2. Healthy Strawberry Lemonade
Ingredients
2 cups water
1/4 cup honey or other vegan substitute
juice of 7 lemons
4 cups fresh strawberries chopped
1-2 cups ice (optional)
3-4 cups sparkling water (less if using ice)
lemon slices, fresh strawberries for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Add the water, honey, lemon juice, strawberries, and ice (if using) to the blender
- Blend on high speed until frothy and smooth
- Strain the mixture to remove the seeds and add the mixture to a large jug
- Add the sparkling water and stir well to combine (add only 1-2 cups of sparkling water if you have added ice to the lemonade mixture)
- Serve in mason jars or pretty glasses with a lemon slice on the rim and fresh strawberries, and additional ice if desired
3. Sugar – free ginger lemonade recipe
Ingredients
2 lemons
2 tbsp grated ginger
4 cups water
1/3 cup powdered erythritol — or more to taste
sliced lemon for serving
ice
Instructions
- Juice the lemons and pour the juice in a pitcher. Add the grated ginger and the sweetener. Pour water on top then stir and taste
- Add more sweetener if needed. Keep in mind that if you serve the lemonade over ice, it will be diluted
- Fill glasses with ice. Pour ginger lemonade over it and serve
