Nafplio
Nafplio was the first capital of the newly born Greek state between 1823 and 1834. You may visit the Palamidi Castle by climbing its 999 steps carved into the rock or take the boat to visit Bourtzi, the Venetian small fortress standing on a rocky islet. In the evening stroll around the picturesque alleys and enjoy your drink at a local bar by the sea.
Hydra
Hydra is a small island close to Athens, where cars and other motor vehicles are entirely prohibited, so you may either walk, take a boat or ride a donkey, which is very characteristic of Hydra. The town is constructed on the slopes of a hill around a port and the beaches are actually small coves with crystal water and green surroundings.
Sounio
Located only one hour away from Athens, Sounio is the perfect getaway option and the ideal place to watch the sunset. The Poseidon’s Temple is a magnificent site on top of a hill, built in the 5th century BC, entirely of white marble, to honor Poseidon, god of the sea.
