‘Sea-mbiosis’, the new art piece at Mitsis N’U Piraeus Port
Measuring 150 x 100 cm and created in acrylic on canvas, “Sea-mbiosis” draws viewers in with its unique interplay of historical artefacts and modern symbols. Salome’s work skillfully reflects classical Greece’s spirit, echoing the port’s historic significance and role as a gateway for trade and culture.
With “Sea-mbiosis,” she critiques the illusion of autonomy in a world where societal expectations and pressures often influence, if not dictate choices. “Sea-mbiosis” juxtaposes ancient Greek artefacts with popular emojis to highlight this tension. The emojis, symbols of modern-day superficial connections, contrast sharply with the depth of cultural artefacts, bringing to light the fragile, commercialized nature of today’s communication.
Salome’s piece suggests that failing to understand these influences may lead to “errors” in our decision-making, pushing us toward a cycle of conformity or impulsive reactions. In “Sea-mbiosis,” she invites viewers to question their own choices, challenging them to break free from the superficial “game” of consumerism and regain control over their identities.
