TAME THE WAVES IN SPRING
Lagos, Portugal
With some of the warmest waters and temperatures in Portugal, Lagos is a gem on the European surf map. The main beach of Meia Praia is great for beginners. However, the waves to check out for some of the best surf in Europe are at Tonel, Mareta, Beliche and Zavial near the town of Sagres. Or… if you are after a world class wave, visit Arrifana a consistent point beach break on the western shore.
Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, Spain
Fuerteventura is one of the most sunny, warm and surf-worthy destinations in Europe. The stunningly beautiful island combines rugged volcanic plains with amazing surf yet remains relatively relaxed and quiet throughout the year. Some of the best surf is found on the North Track, which runs from the quiet town of El Cotillo, around the northern tip of Fuerteventura, to the popular holiday destination of Corralejo. The north track contains masses of incredible waves breaking over rock reef. ‘The Bubble’, “Generosa’, ‘Harbour Wall’ are just a few of the breaks to check out.
Agios Theologos beach, Kos
Kos is one of the most well-known Greek islands and this historic location is a part of the Dodecanese island chain along with Karpathos and the cosmopolitan island of Rhodes. Kos, the island of endless treasures, features a variety of excellent surfing spots, including the crystal clear Theologos beach.
Oahu, Hawaii
It is vibrant, lively, surf-fueled and attracts the world’s best surfers. Its beaches inspire the love of surfing for many and will no doubt it will have the same power over you. Choose to board there during the spring break or enjoy the revered crystal-clear waters and be in awe of your surroundings. With crowds descending to the beaches for party and surf, you will not be disappointed by this Pacific surfing wonder.
Cancun, Mexico
Long renowned as a party hotspot, the beaches of Cancun are increasingly popular for surfers. Conditions can blow up some awesome waves particularly around the spring break period. While it has by no means been a surfing mecca in the past, it does its best to cater for an increasing number of surfers who fall in love with the area and conditions. Of course, as a bonus when you are done hitting the waves, you can join up with the mother of all parties. There is little doubt that it is still the life and soul of the party, with surfing now included in the mix.
