TAMING THE WAVES IN PRASONISI
Source: Unique Destination
compensates those seeking extreme sports thrills.
Greece, with its endless coastline and the hundreds of scattered islands and, especially, the winds in the Aegean Sea lasting eight months a year, makes it the ideal environment for kite-surfing. For these reasons, thousands of kite surfers visit the country every year, confident that they will find a sandy beach with clear waters, waves and winds that will fulfil even the highest of their expectations. It is not an exaggeration to say that in the past years Greece has become an awesome kite surfing track.
For those initiated in kite surfing, it is a hot spot on the Greek map: Prasonisi is the meeting point for lovers of extreme sports, but also a hidden paradise for those looking for the alternate side of Rhodes.
Rhodes, the “island of the knights”, with its natural beauty, ancient history, medieval aura and cosmopolitan air, has been one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations for decades. Strong winds and unique beaches, combined with modern sports facilities, create the perfect conditions for a wide range of water sports, including kite surfing.
The answer can be found only by observing nature itself. The sandy stretch of land that connects Prasonisi with Rhodes disappears under the waves when the weather is wild, especially during winter, making it look like an island. In the summer, the sandy, two-sided, beautiful beach returns to the surface. Nature never stops playing with you in Prasonisi. When the connecting stretch of land is surfaced, visitors have two different beaches and two separate seas at their disposal. Whatever the direction of the winds, while one beach is always wavy and preferred by the water sports fans, the alternate beach is always calm and suitable for swimming.
Info
In order to reach Prasonisi you will have to cover most of the southern part of the island. Right after passing the village of Katavia, there is a turn to the left and after a few kilometers, from the top of a hill, you will get your first glimpse of paradise! In July and August surfers, accompanied with sports and catering facilities, flood the area.
