THE ATHENIAN RIVIERA: WHERE TO GO AND WHAT TO DO
Just 30 minutes away from Athens, you will find the Athens Riviera, the 70km long coastal area in the southern suburbs of the Greek capital, which stretches from Piraeus to Sounio. Its main areas are Glyfada, Voula, Vouliagmeni, Lagonisi, Varkiza, Anavyssos and Sounio.
The opportunities are numerous: you may swim, take a walk at a marina, do water sports, go for shopping or enjoy your meal by the sea.
One thing is for sure, the Athens Riviera has certainly more to offer than what you expect!
The idyllic beaches with the crystal-clear waters and the palm trees are a must! Kavouri beach and Akti Vouliagmenis are just a few of the many options you have. Located at the bottom of a hill, you will find Vouliagmeni Lake with its thermal waters and underwater cave. At Limanakia, in the same area, you will come across a hidden locals’ spot, a series of coves with a wooden sundeck and a small bar.
In the evening you may watch a movie in an outdoor cinema, under the stars, enjoying your drink and after a while you will forget that you actually are in a city and not on a Greek island. Numerous modern restaurants and bars are also right next to the sea if you wish for a romantic nigh-out.
Finally, a visit to Athens would be incomplete if sightseeing was not in the programme! The Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounio is one of the greatest monuments from the Golden Age of Athens.
