The LINE: A revolution in urban living

The LINE, NEOM’s game-changing urbanization project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is set to provide a revolution in urban living and a blueprint for how people and the planet can coexist in harmony.
The sheer scale and ambition of the linear city means that its delivery is one of the most complex challenges of any infrastructure project in the world.

Ultimately to be a home for nine million people, THE LINE forms part of the extensive development work already underway at NEOM.

Built to prioritize the health and well-being of its citizens, with no roads, cars, or emissions, The LINE’s 170km(105mi)-long linear urban development is a direct response to some of the most pressing challenges facing humanity today, such as legacy infrastructure, pollution, traffic, and human congestion. To be exact residents will also have access to all daily essentials within a five-minute walk, in addition to high-speed rail – with an end-to-end transit of 20 minutes.

Redefining sustainability, THE LINE will be powered by 100% renewable energy, providing pollution-free, healthier, and more sustainable environments for residents. Communities will be built around nature, instead of over it. The integration of nature and open spaces throughout will serve an important role in enhancing air quality.

As one of the most important projects under Saudi Vision 2030, NEOM is spurring economic diversification and acting as a catalyst for growth in Saudi Arabia. The estimated building cost is US$100–200 billion (400–700 billion SAR), with some estimates as high as $1 trillion. It is claimed by the Saudi government that it will create 460,000 jobs, spur economic diversification, and contribute 180 billion SAR (US$48 billion) to domestic GDP by 2030.
