ROAD TRIP TO RECONNECT WITH NATURE
A zero-waste road trip requires planning ahead and recognizing that waste begins with the choices we make as consumers. Start by reducing consumption of goods that contain excessive packaging. Remove any remaining packaging at home, reuse as much as you can and send the rest to be recycled!
Bring reusables
This is one of the easiest ways to reduce your waste. On road trips, you have your home with you all the time. Bring reusable cups, plates, utensils and containers to help minimize waste. When you cook you can store your leftovers and when you eat out you have your own takeout container.
Recycle
Keep a separate container for your recycling and sort it when you drop it off. Recycling centers are easy to find by simply searching google maps. Remember to check hours and the types of materials the center takes. Recycling is an easy way to reduce your impact. To save on space, buy cans instead of bottles and crush them down. And always opt for items packaged in recyclable and compostable materials.
Say no to straws
Along your road trip, you will surely stop for an occasional smoothie or iced coffee and when you do, request that your drink be served without a straw. If you really like sipping your drinks through a straw, get the reusable kind so you can use it over and over again!
Use natural products
Soap, dishwashing liquid and shower gels are rich in surfactants. They can also be enriched with preservatives, dyes and fragrances that are harmful to the environment. For a conscious road trip, you can avoid water pollution by choosing natural products. Use cold soaps, black soap or Marseille soap that are free of toxic components. Replace sulphate-rich shower gels with organic liquid soap and opt for a natural dishwashing liquid.
