TRAVELIFE
It is an initiative dedicated to promoting sustainable practices in the travel and tourism industry, created in 2007 by ABTA, the UK travel association. It includes numerous sustainability criteria, including environmental and social issues, such as minimising the amount of energy, waste and water, as well as positive actions for employee welfare, working with the local community and businesses and protecting local traditions and wildlife.
To obtain the Travelife, certain milestones have to be achieved, such as using energy efficient led bulbs, protecting the water resources by producing water through the Reverse Osmosis process, eliminating the use of single-use plastic cups and replacing plastic straws with biodegradable ones, diligent recycling process of all waste produced such as plastic, glass, aluminum, cardboard, soap and cooked oils, light bulbs, batteries and electric equipment, minimizing organic kitchen waste by composting, supporting the local community, the children and youth, etc.
Each year, the target is set higher and the goal is to achieve more distinctions in the fields of environmental protection and sustainable tourism.
